ABOUT FAU

Being honest when I started to study this career, I didn’t read the programme (ups) and now that I’m already in I realize that I have another semester of structures, which is a torture haha. In fact, to do this post I had to read the programme.
Well I think all the subjects are so important to have a complete training for our future. The career involves topics that seems to be maybe not related to each other, but are important complements like geometry and urbanism for example. About teaching methods, it depends of the professor that is teaching the class, but mostly are very dynamic classes, I have to do practical work and put in practice all the theory of the classes in real cases of studies, which I think is a very good way of learning. But, in some cases classes are really boring. When the semester ends we have to answer questions about our teachers and classes, but no one see changes even when most people disagree about a class.
About use of technology, since this year I started to take my computer everywhere, because I need it for almost every subject. I think is a good way to use technology, it make easier to look for information and to communicate with my classmates because most of the works are in groups.
About the faculty and infrastructure, there are some issues. For example, classrooms are not available to gather so much people and sometimes it gets difficult for teachers to do the classes because of that. Well we all know that are a lot of problems to fix, but at least we have a place to study and letting stress aside, Fau is an unforgettable experience, talking about bad feeling and especially good ones.

BACK TO THE PAST

About time traveling, I definitely would prefer going to the past. But not to far from now. Maybe to the 80’s or being a teenager in the 90’s. It seems to be a really fun period. Is like 30 years ago but there are so much things that are so different right now. People seemed to be more “human” and I think is because of the advances of technology that society has changed so much. Technology Is really useful in some cases but it really destroyed human relations. When I watch movies from the 80’s and 90’s people really look happier than now, I don’t say that they didn’t have problems in some ways, but when I think about those years a colorful image come to my mind. I imagine  parties with funny dance moves and joyful music and I’d really like to be there.

Now there are a lot of movies and series that are set in those years and I suppose is  for some reason, I’m going to generalize but I think most of people enjoy seeing things about those years. There’s even a channel on youtube that turns “modern” music into 80’s style and is really cool. I would like to travel in time there forever haha but I was born a little late. I mean, is not that I have a miserable life living in 2017, but it could be better if we let our cellphones aside.

ENGLISH LANGUAGE CHALLENGES

Learning English at Fau was in fact an entertaining thing to do. It’s really important to train and try to communicate our ideas through another language, English specifically because of the predominance in the world of this language. Because of internet we can get considerable information and some of them are only in English so it’s a really useful tool. English classes and writing blogs were helpful ways to develop this tool.
About writing, sometimes it gets a really tedious thing to do (at least for me). So it was great to choose some topics for the blogs and share ideas about it, because it was more motivating and helped us to exercise writing not only as an “English work”, but train writing in general.
In my case I think that I have to practice more listening, specifically “British English”, sometimes it sounds a little confuse to me because of the accent I think. A good way to improve this may be watching British films. I could do that definitely because I love watching movies.
In general, I use English mostly to sing (I’m awful doing that), because the music that I listen is in that language and that helped me to learn more words and phrases that I can use when I’m speaking.

I have a friend and like a week ago her family came from eeuu to have lunch in my house. They don’t speak Spanish at all, not more than Hola, gracias, chao. So it was a great opportunity to use “my English” to talk with them. It was an Spanglish conversation really.
