ABOUT FAU

Being honest when I started to study this career, I didn’t read the programme (ups) and now that I’m already in I realize that I have another semester of structures, which is a torture haha. In fact, to do this post I had to read the programme.
Well I think all the subjects are so important to have a complete training for our future. The career involves topics that seems to be maybe not related to each other, but are important complements like geometry and urbanism for example. About teaching methods, it depends of the professor that is teaching the class, but mostly are very dynamic classes, I have to do practical work and put in practice all the theory of the classes in real cases of studies, which I think is a very good way of learning. But, in some cases classes are really boring. When the semester ends we have to answer questions about our teachers and classes, but no one see changes even when most people disagree about a class.
About use of technology, since this year I started to take my computer everywhere, because I need it for almost every subject. I think is a good way to use technology, it make easier to look for information and to communicate with my classmates because most of the works are in groups.
About the faculty and infrastructure, there are some issues. For example, classrooms are not available to gather so much people and sometimes it gets difficult for teachers to do the classes because of that. Well we all know that are a lot of problems to fix, but at least we have a place to study and letting stress aside, Fau is an unforgettable experience, talking about bad feeling and especially good ones.

BACK TO THE PAST

About time traveling, I definitely would prefer going to the past. But not to far from now. Maybe to the 80’s or being a teenager in the 90’s. It seems to be a really fun period. Is like 30 years ago but there are so much things that are so different right now. People seemed to be more “human” and I think is because of the advances of technology that society has changed so much. Technology Is really useful in some cases but it really destroyed human relations. When I watch movies from the 80’s and 90’s people really look happier than now, I don’t say that they didn’t have problems in some ways, but when I think about those years a colorful image come to my mind. I imagine  parties with funny dance moves and joyful music and I’d really like to be there.

Now there are a lot of movies and series that are set in those years and I suppose is  for some reason, I’m going to generalize but I think most of people enjoy seeing things about those years. There’s even a channel on youtube that turns “modern” music into 80’s style and is really cool. I would like to travel in time there forever haha but I was born a little late. I mean, is not that I have a miserable life living in 2017, but it could be better if we let our cellphones aside.

ENGLISH LANGUAGE CHALLENGES

Learning English at Fau was in fact an entertaining thing to do. It’s really important to train and try to communicate our ideas through another language, English specifically because of the predominance in the world of this language. Because of internet we can get considerable information and some of them are only in English so it’s a really useful tool. English classes and writing blogs were helpful ways to develop this tool.
About writing, sometimes it gets a really tedious thing to do (at least for me). So it was great to choose some topics for the blogs and share ideas about it, because it was more motivating and helped us to exercise writing not only as an “English work”, but train writing in general.
In my case I think that I have to practice more listening, specifically “British English”, sometimes it sounds a little confuse to me because of the accent I think. A good way to improve this may be watching British films. I could do that definitely because I love watching movies.
In general, I use English mostly to sing (I’m awful doing that), because the music that I listen is in that language and that helped me to learn more words and phrases that I can use when I’m speaking.

I have a friend and like a week ago her family came from eeuu to have lunch in my house. They don’t speak Spanish at all, not more than Hola, gracias, chao. So it was a great opportunity to use “my English” to talk with them. It was an Spanglish conversation really.

IT'S OUR VACATION!

Since 2009 I don’t have 3 months of vacations because of the student mobilizations during those years, so I’m really excited about the idea of having a real holliday time.

I was considering looking for a job during December, but now I’m thinking about it, because I want to enjoy those days as much as I can. Instead of that I think I’m going to visit my sister. She lives in Concepción and I don’t see her very much because of the distance and time, so maybe that would be a good trip.

Every year I go to Viña del Mar, so, probably I’m going to go there with my family. I like there because there is so much people in the streets and there’s a lot of thing to do. Not like in Concepción, where my sister lives. It seems like nobody lives there, sometimes I enjoy the silence and calm, but there’s a point that I need that noisy city life. Besides when you are on holliday, you are not worried about anything, so things that bothers you during your “days of studying” like the metro, doesn’t matter then.

I like to travel, but I really love to stay at home as well. Sometimes I prefer staying in bed watching movies or series than going out. In my house I can do that. So, that’s totally part of my summer plans. Besides during the year there was a lot of movies that I couldn’t watch so this summer It’s time for that (of course high school musical it's part of the list)

POSTGRADUATE STUDIES

During my short experience as an architecture student I would say that it has been really interesting to know that architecture it is related to many topics, not only constructive ones, like "making" architecture but investigation it's a really interesting option to me. I would like to take a course of History of Art and Architecture, because I think that can help me to understand the expression of the time through this artistic ways. Culture and the way that the human lives is known because of the study of this subjects and I think that maybe in the future people will know about our society as we know about the past.
Where to study it isn't something I thought about it, but I would like to complement the course with traveling. In History class, our teacher told us about the places that he visited and how you can feel being there and not only looking pictures. So, knowing physically the places, not only in a "tourist" way but really living in first person the experience could help me to understand somehting that i only knew because of books. How people live and express their vision of life day by day just living and how architecture it's an evidence of that.
So, I think that doing the course and traveling will contribute to complement my vision as an architect.

A TEACHER, MAYBE

Last Friday I went to a building in construction and I was thinking about my future job. Is it that the job that I want to have in the future? The fact is that I don’t know, I can’t imagine myself working in a construction, but is not exciting to me working in an architecture office. So I was thinking about being a teacher. Maybe because I admire some of the people that teach me every day and I want to do the same, or at least try to.
It would be an indoor job, in a classroom and sometimes I would like to take the class out, for educational purposes, like going to museums or just to contemplate the city and the environment, and maybe traveling it would be an interesting way to learn (we are students, so we know the way that we like our professors teach us)
I think money is important because life isn’t free, but if the salary help me to live without big necessities, it would be great.
I don’t know what subject I would like to teach so, there’s no specific major that I’d like to study at the moment. But any that could help me to give important knowledge about everything, theorical and practical data would be so useful.

  LAYING IN BED

One of the activities that is really easy for me to do is to stay all day in bed watching something on the “black mirror” of my computer. Well, that was the last serie that I watched. I didn’t enjoy it really. Watching that I realize that I don’t like series in which the episodes are separated and independent one from the others. I know, the topic it’s the same, but I like to continue watching the same characters and the same story, it’s more dramatic I think, because you follow them and at some point you feel affection for them.

For that reason, a serie that I love is The OC. For the ones who didn’t know, “Medcezir” (mega channel televised it) is a Turkish copy of The OC. My mom watched the Turkish version and she loved it, but I prefer the American version, not that plagiarism. I watched the serie at least 5 times. One of the things that I really liked about the serie was the soundtrack. In some episodes, the characters went to a bar called the “Bait Shop” and the bands were playing there. Rooney, The Killers and Death Cab for Cutie are some of the bands that appear.

Another serie that I really like is American Horror Story. Asylum is my favorite season. I didn’t watch the last two seasons, so I think that is my next date with the screen.

There’s not a kind of series that I prefer, I just watch the first episode of one that I think is going to be good and if it is, I continue watching.
